TIPS FOR AVOIDING THE BIG CHILL
It’s still pretty warm here in Philly, but sooner than you think it will be time to change your thermostat from cool to heat. When you flip that switch, will you be greeted by warm and cozy air, or will an icy blast blow out of your registers?
Fortunately, there are some steps you can take today to make sure your furnace is functioning when you need it most. At Stallion Plumbing, Heating & Air Conditioning, we want everyone’s heat in good working order before cold temperatures strike, so here are some tips from us on how to check things out today.
1) CHANGE YOUR FILTERS
This simple step is one of the easiest and most important DIY tasks a homeowner can do to keep their furnace working well. Your furnace filter can get clogged with particles like dust and pet dander. A dirty filter makes your whole system work harder, leading to costly breakdowns. Go ahead and change those filters today to get ready for winter.
2) CHECK YOUR REGISTERS
Check around your house to make sure none of your registers are blocked by furniture, drapes or other items. Then take a vacuum with a hose attachment and clean out the part of the duct you can see from the top of the register. These steps ensure that your system has proper airflow to heat the whole home.
3) CLEAN THE OUTDOOR UNIT
Take a look at the outdoor unit before you turn the heating on. It should be clean and free of dust, debris and foliage. Make sure your landscaping isn’t blocking the airflow. If the outdoor unit is dirty, turn it off and disconnect it at the thermostat. Then, get a garden hose and spray up close to clean the unit thoroughly. This will make sure
4) GET A TUNE-UP
You should get a professional tune-up and maintenance for your furnace at least once a year. We check every aspect of your furnace system and make sure everything is in good working order for the season. If it’s been a while since you last scheduled maintenance, it’s a good idea to get that done before you turn your furnace on for the first time this season.
If you’re ready to schedule a pre-season tune-up for your Philadelphia furnace, the heating experts at Stallion are here to help. Call us at (215) 461-3635 or contact Stallion online today.
